How Inner Space Research looks and sounds

Logos, color, type, illustration and voice for anyone making ISR materials: the website, flyers, social posts, signage and sponsor decks. This page replaces branding.innerspaceresearch.com and is kept current with the main site.

01 · Foundation

Calm, grounded, exact

The name describes research that looks inward. The mark is a geometric mandala: structure and symmetry. The brand sits between clinical coldness and loose new-age style, and serves two audiences at once: people deciding whether to trust a study, and sponsors who need to see rigor.

Rigorous

Evidence first. Clean layouts, accurate language, nothing a regulator would flag.

Grounded

Warm neutrals and natural greens. Real people, real Utah places, a real office in Orem.

Expansive

Generous space and quiet symmetry. One saturated accent at a time.

Tagline

Boldly going inward.

Alternates: Serious science for inner space. Tomorrow's psychiatry, tested today. Advancing psychedelic medicine, one trial at a time.

Mission (draft, pending approval)

Advance rigorous clinical research that expands what's possible in mental health.

03 · Color

Deep Sea up top, beige underneath

The website opens on a Deep Sea field with beige type and a chartreuse accent. On the home page that Deep Sea carries on behind the Current Studies heading and the top of the first row of study art, so the art sits on the hero's ground, then the page settles into Warm Beige. Deep Green carries text and primary actions. Everything else is an accent, used in small doses.

The highlight

Psychiatric research with a specialty in psychedelic medicines

One or two key words per headline get a chartreuse highlight on beige, or a chartreuse underline on Deep Sea. Never a whole sentence.

Rules

  • Sentence case for headlines and body. Caps only for eyebrows.
  • Keep long text to about 68 characters a line.
  • Body copy in Deep Green or #2C3F36 on light grounds.
  • No long passages set in the serif, no outlined or stretched type.

05 · Illustration

Two styles, one set of colors

Geometric graphics carry study art, ads and the website. Figurative scenes, with quiet people and Utah places, carry social and print when a moment needs a person in it. Both use flat brand colors and nothing else. Each study's geometric art has its own palette.

Geometric · one palette per study

Every study gets its own palette and its own motif, and keeps them everywhere it appears: the Current Studies tile, the study page banner, ads, flyers and social posts. Three layers keep each study distinct and still unmistakably ISR.

Shared by every study

Chartreuse is the light: every piece holds one chartreuse sun, arch or half circle. Deep Green is the ink and Warm Beige the paper, for the horizon line and small shapes.

LightChartreuse #E9EFB3
InkDeep Green #243F33
PaperWarm Beige #EFEAE5

Set by the condition

The ground. Depression on Cornflower, PTSD on Deep Sea, anxiety on Seafoam, bipolar on Lilac. Two studies in the same condition share a ground, so they read as a family.

Unique to the study

One figure color, one accent, one motif and one slow movement on hover. Within a condition, no two active studies share a figure color or a motif.

  • Build only from circles, half and quarter circles, arches, squares, steps, a diamond and a row of three dots.
  • One ground per piece, from the study's palette. Shapes in its figure and accent colors plus the shared light, ink and paper.
  • Snap shapes to an even grid. Let large shapes run off the edge of the frame.
  • A thin beige horizon line where the motif sits on its ground.
  • Where study art sits on Deep Sea (the home page shelf), give the tile a 1px beige hairline at 30% so a Deep Sea ground keeps its edge.
  • Lilac is the Bipolar ground; anywhere else it stays small, a dot or one small form. Never a page or section background.
  • Start from the master file. Crop or scale it for a new size; never redraw it or swap its colors.
  • A new study: take its condition's ground, choose a figure and accent no active study in that condition uses, and draw a new motif. Add it to this page before it goes live.
  • No people, no symbols of illness or medicine, no text inside the art.
  • Flat fills only: no outlines, gradients, texture or shadows.
  • Motion on the website: one slow move on hover, about a second. Nothing moves on scroll, and nothing moves with reduced motion on.

Figurative · quiet figures, held light

Figurative scenes show feelings and settings without showing a real participant: closed-eye calm, one circle of light, Utah underfoot.

Flat shapes, no lines

Solid fills only. No outlines, gradients, texture, grain or shadows. Depth comes from overlap and one darker step of the same color.

One circle of light

Every scene holds one halo: two concentric chartreuse rings as sun, moon, lamp or window. Off to one side, never behind a head.

Quiet faces

Eyes closed or lowered, drawn as short arcs. No nose, brows or open mouth. Posture carries the feeling.

Held, not hurting

Show rest, company, care and steadiness. The copy can name the struggle; the picture holds the hope.

Real places, simplified

Utah in three to five bands: Timpanogos, the arches, aspens, the lake. Known by silhouette, not detail.

Clinical, not sterile

Exam and session rooms get a window, a plant, a soft chair. Equipment pared to one or two objects.

Figurative moods

DayBeige, Seafoam, Teal, Deep Green. Clinic and everyday.
CalmSeafoam ground. Portraits and social.
DuskLilac sky, sandstone. Utah red rock. Print and social only.
NightDeep Sea and a chartreuse moon. Sleep, quiet hours.

Never draw

  • Distress tropes: head in hands, tears, rain clouds, cracked heads
  • Brains, puzzle pieces, pills, syringes or lab coats
  • Mushrooms, rainbow swirls, third eyes, cosmic heads
  • Before and after pairs, or anything implying a study drug works
  • Text, logos or study names inside the picture

Where each style goes

Geometric: study art on the website, recruitment ads, flyers and signage. Figurative: social posts, print and decks, where a person helps. In a figurative set, show a range of skin tones, ages and body types. All recruitment art is IRB-reviewed like any other ad.

The website shows no illustrated people; it uses ISR's own photos, geometric study art and the line mandala. Commissioning figurative work? Ask for the full illustration style guide, with proportions and skin and hair palettes, at info@innerspaceresearch.com.

06 · Voice

A careful clinician who won't oversell

Clear over clever. Precise over hyped. Warm over sterile. Every sentence is plain, short and does a job.

  • "We" for ISR, "you" for the reader. Never "I".
  • Reassure before you ask: safety, privacy, cost and the right to withdraw come before any call to action.
  • Keep the honest hedges: investigational, may be eligible, typically no cost.
  • Calls to action are literal: View Current Studies, Read more, Call 801-871-5516.
  • Numbers only when real. No invented stats.
  • No emoji, no em dashes, no exclamation marks except "Thank you!"
